
Coach Taryn Sheehan is a nationally recognized leader in collegiate cross country and track & field, known for developing elite athletes and guiding them to the highest levels of competition. During her tenure at Yale University (2019-2024), she coached multiple Ivy League champions and record-holders, including an NCAA runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase—one of the fastest performances ever by a collegiate athlete in the event.
Her athletes have achieved remarkable success, with multiple qualifications for the NCAA Championships, U.S. Olympic Trials, and USTFCCCA All-American honors. Under her leadership, Yale saw over 14 individual Ivy League champions and multiple All-Ivy League selections across cross country and track & field.
Beyond Yale, Coach Sheehan’s coaching career spans successful stints at Western Michigan and Louisville, where she developed numerous NCAA qualifiers and conference champions. She has also played a key role in the broader track & field community, serving as a mentor for female coaches and working with Team USA as part of the 2024 Under-23 NACAC Coaching Staff. She currently serves as Commissioner of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA), coaches middle school basketball, and adjunct teaches “Coaching Methods” at Sacred Heart University.
With a Master’s in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville and a background as a collegiate runner, Coach Sheehan’s expertise, leadership, and passion for athlete development continue to make a lasting impact on the sport.
